Mangaluru, Oct 14: In an incident that happened on Wednesday October 14, a traffic police constable was seen assaulting a youth, who objected him talking over mobile phone instead of controlling traffic.
The entire incident was filmed and now has gone viral. City police commissioner Chandra Shekar, who came to know about the incident, has ordered an enquiry even though no official police complaint has been lodged so far.
As per details of the case, when the whole city was celebrating Navaratri on Wednesday, a traffic police in the famous Car Street was talking over his mobile phone instead of controlling the traffic. A group of youth, who were passing by, criticised the policeman for not doing his duty promptly. The police who heard this got angry at once and pounced on a youth from the group and assaulted him indiscriminately. The angry policeman used abusive words also. Other members of the group, who could not do anything as the person involved was a police, filmed the incident in a mobile phone.
The policeman tried to snatch away the mobile phone from the youth, but failed. Somehow the youth managed to flee from the spot.
Many social activists in city have condemned the incident. The policeman is attached to the Mangaluru South police station.
