Puttur, Oct 16: In an amusing incident which occurred at Uppinangady on Saturday October 15, owner of a jewellery shop could save himself from the allegation of trying to cheat a woman and prove his innocence through CCTV camera installed in the shop.
A woman visited a jewellery store located near the old bus stand at Uppinangady on Saturday morning and asked the owner to give back the ornament she had given a day before for certain repairs. The owner sought to see the slip issued for the same, but the woman said no slip was issued, and accused the owner of keeping her ornament and trying to deceive her.
To save himself from the charge of being a cheat, the jewellery store owner showed the CCTV footage of the previous day. It was clear that the woman concerned had not visited this shop. The woman suspected that the relevant portion was deleted by the store owner. She also complained about this incident to Uppinangady gram panchayat. On the basis of the complaint, CCTV footages of nearby commercial establishments were verified. None of them showed movements of this particular woman.
She then went back to the driver of an auto rickshaw by which she had arrived at the jewellery store to furnish proof through his evidence. To her surprise, the auto rickshaw driver told her that she had travelled to a different jewellery store by his vehicle and not the one about which she had been raising a din.
As a result, the jeweller was saved of embarrassment because of CCTV monitoring.
