Mangalore: Annual Sports Meet of DK Police a Big Success

Mangalore, Dec 30: The annual sports meet of the Dakshina Kannada police, held on the police grounds near the district headquarters in Pandeshwar here,  was a well-attended event. There was a festive atmosphere all around, with fun and excitement. The family members of the police personnel and the audience watched the proceedings in total attention.

The singular, striking feature of the meet was that all the police personnel, cutting across their seniority and positions, took part whole-heartedly.

The sports meet shattered the popular belief that police personnel give up all their physical exercises and extra-curricular activities once they get into service. The participation was no less than any athlete meet. The zest and determination of the police personnel gave the audience the feel of a top-grade sports meet.

Be it running race or shot put or tug and war, there was a tough competition among police personnel. Another centre of attraction of the meet was the participation of women police; they proved that their strength was not inferior to their male counterparts.

The applause from the audience was equally resounding, the winners smile never discouraged the losers, instead it encouraged the losers to participate well with confidence in the next annual meet, so felt many among the audience.

Another memorable event at the meet was made of Gymkhana fixtures - events conceived and designed for the family members of the police personnel. None of the participants took it as a competition, but only as serious kind of fun, with smiles flashing all across. Confusion too provided more entertainment. Some were not sure of carrying the day, while others were not sure what was to follow. At the end of the day, the disorder brought delight.

Another noticeable aspect of the meet was that the enthusiasm with which the event was started remained till the end of the concluding ceremony, be it the case of participants or of the audience. Losers never forgot to congratulate the winners and in turn winners did not forget to pat the backs of the losers to wishing better luck the next time around.

The concluding ceremony of the annual sports meet of Dakshina Kannada district police was held at District Armed Reserve (DAR) grounds, near Pandeshwar here on Saturday, December 29.

Western range IGP Ashit Mohan Prasad, SP N Satish Kumar, Additional SP Lokesh Kumar, district Home Guards commandant Dr Shivaprasad Rai and others were present on the occasion.
