Sullia, Oct 17: Police from the town, acting in filmy fashion, arrested youth who was about to tie the nuptial knot, from the venue of the marriage on the evening of Saturday October 15.
Arun (30) from Subrahmanya in the taluk was to marry a girl from a village near Gonibeedu in Moodigere taluk of Chikkamagaluru district on Sunday morning. The marriage function was arranged at Merchants community hall at Jannapura near Gonibeedu. The groom had arrived at the marriage hall at around 5.30 pm on Saturday with ten friends and a few relatives after which various rituals connected with the marriage had begun.
After the ritual of applying oil to the groom was completed, preparations were going on to begin marriage formalities. At around 7.30 pm on Saturday, police from Sullia arrived at the marriage hall and whisked away the groom a few hours ahead of his big day.
It is gathered that Arun, who works and lives at Bengaluru, faces the allegation of murdering the owner of his rented home, an old lady living alone, on August 13 this year.
After this development, the marriage was called off and guests returned. The information came as a shocker for the family and friends of the bride. Although marriage arrangements, travel, leave and expenses connected with everything went waste, the bride's side heaved a sigh of relief at the fact that they came to know about the real antecedents of the groom before the marriage was solemnized, which saved the bride-to-be from leading hellish life.
