Udupi: Daughter survives besides father’s decomposed body for 5 days

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (EP)

Udupi, Oct 19: A daughter has miraculously remained alive sleeping beside the decomposed body of her father who had apparently got into a suicide pact five days ago.

The light in the house in Bailoor NGO colony was on for the last five days. The father and the daughter had not come out of the house. When locals, who grew suspicious with the stink, broke the door and entered the house, they found father and daughter lying on the floor. They thought both were dead. But later it was discovered that the daughter was alive.

The father is identified as Anantha Poojary (65) and the surviving daughter is
Vinutha (32).

Vishu Shetty from Ambalpady received information on Tuesday October 18 that both father and daughter have committed suicide. Shetty took district hospital’s Annappa along and went to the house of Anantha Poojary. They vomited being unable to bear the stink. Even after applying perfume, they could not bear it. The body of Anantha Poojary had decomposed and Vinutha was sleeping next to him as if dead. So they went forward to bring the bodies out and were surprised to notice that Vinutha was breathing. Therefore she was rushed to Manipal hospital for treatment.

Anantha Poojary was employed as a clerk in the forest department in Sullia and Puttur before retiring in Hassan. He later stayed in Bailoor NGO colony. His wife had died two years ago. Vinutha had divorced after getting married.

The real cause of Anantha Poojary’s death is not known. A post-mortem will reveal that fact. Vishu Shetty suspects that the daughter might have collapsed with shock after her father died. The question however remains as to why then the latch of the door was put.

The dead body of Anantha has been kept in district hospital morgue. Vinutha is recovering in the ICU of the hospital.

Nowadays people's are very busy in modern life style, doesn't have time to what is happening in our neighborhood and someone is too busy in dirty and communal politics.
At least we should know about our home and neighbors. My humble request to all leaders of politics and community please solve our own problems, neighbors, family first then we can do something good for our community and our nation.
    RIP

This makes me recall a childless couple in Bengaluru who lived secluded from rest of the world resulting with death of one of them due to starvation.

Sometimes life becomes an unending battle, especially in old age. People tend to withdraw from everybody. Our culture hasn't come to accept the old age homes practice. Had this father/daughter got admitted to some such centre probably their situation couldn't have been that is today.

I wish we are a bit more caring to take note of events in houses such as this in Udupi. Nothing can be done for those who departed, at-least lets be a bit vigilant. If no activity is found in our neighbour's house, lets be a bit interfering and enquire.

Let us not leave behind humanity and not be engrossed by selfishness.

Life is God's greatest gift to man.

However longevity and eventually death are both largely man's own doing.

Very sad news. Such types of tragedies are taking place in every nook and corner of our country almost daily. However attention to such serious and unimaginable issues and solving them our Central Govt is behind saving Cows and Muslim personal law. What a shame to we Indians. We are exposing in UN and the world that we Indians are most civilized and india is developing/shining. However real field is opposite. People are committing suicide due to poverty and being killed in the name of Cow etc.
