Mangalore, Jan 2: Tension prevailed at the branch of ICICI Bank, located near Prabhath Talkies, when a customer turned violent, on Wednesday, January 2 morning.

A certain Abdul Hameed took an auto loan from the branch of ICICI Bank for the car which he bought from certain Karunakar Poojary. Moreover, he had already cleared this auto loan three months ago and owed no single paisa under this loan account.  However, ICICI Bank officers denied issuing No Objection Certificate (NOC) for this car. This has infuriated Abdul Hameed.

ICICI officials stated that they would issue NOC only when Abdul Hameed clears his personal loan which was maintained in the same branch.  This irked Abdul Hameed and his subordinates who went berserk in the bank premises.  Anish, ICICI Bank staff tried to obstruct photo clicking by our photo journalist who also manhandled other photographers of dailies.

Bunder police have rushed to the spot and avoided any further altercation.

Banks take advantage of the fact that the customer does not go into the details of the fine print and even if one goes thru it its difficult for a person to understand as its all legal lingo.I feel banks should be more transparent and honest in explaining terms and conditions to avoid such sitiuations.

I think it has lot to do with the "fine print" that's taken for granted by the customer and ICICI Bank. When I say customer, I mean not going through the fine prints microscopically and understand what it means to him or her.

On the other hand, ICICI bank, not taking a little pain to explain it thoroughly to the customer, especially to the one's who are not quite on the know hows. I am a customer of ICICI bank of the same branch and what I have seen there is some of the staff who are very eager to push some of the useless investment products (exborbitant comission to ICICI Bank) to the customer than really looking at what customer requirements are.

On the service front, the staff's are not trained adequetely to handle some of the simple queries. My comments are not any reflection on ICICI bank as whole but particularly of this branch.

If the particulars given in the report are right then the Bank is at no fault. The law permits a General lien on the assets pledged to a banker till all the dues are cleared in all loans. This is a Special provision granted to Bankers by law itself and the customer should have ascerained the position before creating a HUNGAMA.
