Moodbidri, Jan 3: ‘Alva’s Virasat-2008,’ a national cultural fest organized by the Alva's foundation began here at the Shobhavana in Mijar on Wednesday January 3 in full splendour and glory.
I M Vithalamurthy, secretary, Kannada and culture department inaugurated the five-day festival. Speaking on the occasion, he opined that folk culture will not vanish as long as mankind exists. However, one must take the responsibility to develop this folk culture, he emphasized.
He further declared that Alvas’ Nudisiri and Virasat are such programmes in India, which could be emulated as a role model for many other similar programmes as well. Also according to Vithalamurthy there was ample scope to develop Moodbidri as tourism spot.
Ananthakrishna, chaiman of Karnataka Bank presided over the function. M Mohandas Kudva, DGM of Canara Bank, former MLA K Abhayachandra Jain and former minister K Amaranath Shetty were the chief guests on the occasion.
In the course of the function, eminent saxaphone maestro Dr Kadri Gopalnath was presented with the ‘Alva’s’ Virasat’ award. Ananthakrishna lauding Dr Gopalnath's talent in his speech said that he can make the country proud by giving his performances across the world.
Fusion of East-n-West:
Later a musical fusion of east and west was held at Shobhavana, which totally mesmerized and enthralled more than a thousand strong appreciative audience present at the venue.
Kadri Gopalnathan (saxophone), Rudresh K Mahantappa (American jazz saxophone), Dr Haridwara Mangalam A K Palanivelu (special Tavil), drum maestro Shivamani Chennai (western drums), V Selva Ganesh, Chennai (khanjeera) and Bangalore Rajashekhar (morching) displayed their enormous talents here which seems to have transported the audience into an entirely different world for a few hours.
