Udupi, Oct 27: Former state chief minister and union minister, M Veerappa Moily, said that the Narendra Modi-led central government has failed miserably in all fronts. "The state government, under the leadership of chief minister, Siddaramaiah, has been providing good administration. For the coming assembly election, we can safely assume that Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district, which had remained strong fortresses of the congress, will prove that the party has deep-rooted support here," he stated.
He was addressing a meeting of block Congress presidents and office bearers held at the district Congress office at Brahmagiri here on Wednesday October 26.
"Our state is leading others as far was implementation of Swacch Bharat in industries and other such schemes are concerned. The twin-districts had remained bastions of the Congress in the past. Because of our own mistakes, we lost that position. We should not lose heart just because our party was defeated here and there. There have been many instances in which the party had recovered from such debacles and emerged stronger with renewed vigour. In the coming assembly election, we will prove once again that Dakshina Kannada and Udupi remain in the stronghold of our party," Moily stated.
In a diatribe launched against the union government, Moily claimed that Modi is merely a good orator. "We should realize that delivering speeches alone cannot win elections for him. Under him, the government has miserably failed and employment guarantee scheme has faced reverses," he claimed. He expressed his intention to build the party again into a strong entity as per the wishes of party activists.
Rajya Sabha member, Oscar Fernandes, said that the party is faced with a need to choose a new leader to the post of district president, as current president and Byndoor MLA, Gopal Poojary, intends to devote more time for his constituency. He asked Moily to suggest a replacement for Gopal Poojary and send the recommendation to Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee after discussing the matter and getting advice from party leaders.
District in-charge minister, Pramod Madhwaraj, party leaders, Gopal Bhandary, M A Gafoor, Veronica Karnelio and many others were present.
