Mangaluru, Oct 28: The state high court (HC) has upheld the police action in arresting T P Rahim alias Goods Rahim alias Kindi Rahim (41) by the city police and invocation of provisions of Goonda Act against him.
The policemen said that the three-judge advisory board of the high court has approved Rahim's arrest under the provisions of the said act. Rahim had been arrested on October 3 under Goonda Act after accusing him of being a drugs trafficker, and sent him to Ballari jail.
It is gathered that for the first time, a person accused of selling ganja has been arrested under the tough provisions of Goonda Act. It is learnt that the accused was engaged in sale of ganja to college students and general public since the last five years, and eight different cases under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act had been registered against him in Bunder, Panambur, and Barke police stations in the city. Five among these cases are being heard by courts, while the other three are under investigation.
As per information, whenever cases were registered against him, Rahim used to get bail from the court and resume his activity of drugs peddling. On the basis of reports by Bunder police inspector, Shantaram, assistant police commissioner (central subdivision), Uday Nayak, and deputy commissioner of police (law and order), Shantaraju, city police commissioner, M Chandra Sekhar had passed order to arrest him under Goonda Act.
