Kasargod, Oct 30: Protest against opening a new government liquor shop in Anangooru in the suburbs here have continued the fourth day on Saturday, October 29. Protesters are determined not to allow liquor shop here.
Women, children, elderly and the young continue to protest against the government liquor shop in large numbers. The shifting of the shop which was in I C Bhandary road in the city was scheduled on last Wednesday. Protesters had waylaid the lorry laden with liquor preventing the inauguration.
The shop is being opened 50 meters away from Anangooru taluk hospital in between 300 houses. There is a temple, tribe girl’s hostel and Anganawadi in the vicinity. Hundreds of school girls and women use the road.
People also visited and submitted petitions to state revenue minister, district in-charge minister and concerned officials who have assured of action. However the demands are yet to be met.
Kasargod MLA NA Nellikunnu has supported the protests and promised to exert pressure on the government to prevent the opening of shop. He showed his support by cooking rice in the venue.
Protest committee conveners A Sathish, Kunhikrishnan master, Venukannan, Saji Mathew and Janaki are leading the protests.
