Mangaluru: Illegal sand transportation trucks seized inside city

Mangaluru, Oct 30: The police who were checking vehicles at Padil Junction in the city, stopped and took into custody two tipper trucks with loads of sand which were moving into the city from the direction of Kerala. It is learnt that the sand in question was being brought into Dakshina Kannada district from Kannur in Kerala. The operation was conducted on Saturday October 29.

When inspector of rural station here was on his rounds at around 5 am on Saturday, he stopped two tipper trucks which were coming into the city from the direction of Kasargod. He found that the vehicles did not have any documents to support transportation of sand. As it was confirmed that it was a case of illegal sand transportation, both the trucks were taken into possession along with sand loads. It is estimated that the value of seized vehicles and sand is above Rs 20 lacs. 

A case stands registered in this connection at the rural station here. Police are investigating the matter further.
