Mangaluru, Oct 31: Bajpe and CCB police have nabbed four more accused in connection with the robbery at the chief priest and hereditary trustee of Kateel Goddess Durgaparameshwari temple, Vasudev Asranna, at Gidikere on October 4, revealed police commissioner Chandra Sekhar.
He was addressing the press meet at his office here on Monday, October 31.
Chandra Shekar said that the accused were identified as Bharath Shetty (30) Karkala, Mohammed Ali (35) from Bantwal, Purushotham (44) from Haleyangady and Harish Gatti (41), from Uchila.
Police have confiscated 455 grams gold, one revolver, one pistol, nine bullets, one machete, breach loading gun with three bullets and four mobile phones.
It is said that prime accused Sudhindra HK had contacted Bharath Shetty and they planned the robbery with his help. All the accused were involved in different businesses and had taken loans and to repay the amounts, they committed this offense.
Bharath Shetty has a criminal history. He was involved in Suleiman murder case, Leo Pereira abduction and a case is registered under arms act in VT police station in Mumbai.
Police commissioner also said that this incident was very sensational one as it had created tension and fear in the society. Some of the miscreants tried to divert the direction of case by misleading. But with the victim’s and public’s support, they were able to crack the case. Police commissioner thanked the victim’s family and public for their support.
Sudhindra and others plotted the offence by providing the information but accused Lizo and 6 others executed the robbery and are still absconding. Police department has the details about the absconding accused and teams are working on in apprehending them. It is also learnt that accused Suresh Kumar was working as PRO for Kateel Temple and he is a government employee. Rest six accused who executed the offense are yet to be arrested and search is on.
So far 9 have arrested including the presently arrested 4 persons.
On being asked about the Baliga murder case, Commissioner said "We are awaiting some documents and once it is ready we will submit the supplementary charge sheet."
Police commissioner has announced Rs 10,000 each reward to both the teams.
Police managed to nab the accused with help of DCPs, ACP Rajendra, Bajpe police inspector Nagaraj TD, CCB Inspector Sunil Nayak and other police personnel.
