Moodbidri, Jan 6: The day-four event of the Alvas annual cultural extravaganza ‘Virasat’ entitled the 'Classical Syndicate' was held at Shobhavana here, on Saturday January 6.

Pandit Purbyan Chatterjee of Calicut and his team accompanying him on sitar and other musical instruments completly mesmerised the audience. The music lovers here were taken to the pinnacles of ecstacy and seem to be totally enthralled and overwhelmed by the mind-blowing performances given by Chatterjee and his musical troupe.

Purbyan Chatterjee on the sitar, Veena Kamalesh on the veena, Rakesh Chaurasia playing the flute, Madar Ali on the sarangi, Shubhankar Banerjee on the tabla, Pratham Kiran on the drum and Satish Kumar on tabla all comprised the musical team which conducted the programme and entertained the audience for nearly two hours.

The programme was inaugurated by the Mumbai police officer Prakash Bhandari. While traditionally attired ladies who had come from different parts of  country welcomed the gathering with 'arati'. Also on stage Dr Mohan Alva, the main organizer of the programme honoured the guests.

The second session of the 'Classical Syndicate'  programme was led by the Karnataka Drama Academy (KDA) president Srinivas G Kappanna. Under his able guidance and leadership a wide variety of folk and cultural dances were performed in 15 different ways by 150 artists of the dance troupe.
