Mangaluru, Nov 3: Father Muller Medical College Hospital and Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI) Mangaluru on Thursday November 3 signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide healthcare services and facilities to construction workers and their families. These services and facilities will be provided at free or concession charges to workers working for CREDAI Mangaluru members.
The MoU was signed by Fr Richard Coelho, administrator Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Mangaluru and Dharmendra B Mehta, president, CREDAI Mangaluru.
The construction industry contributes 8% of India's GDP and employs 40 million workers. CREDAI Mangaluru members employ more than 10,000 workers. CREDAI Mangaluru and Father Muller Medical College Hospital have jointly taken this initiative to provide quality healthcare to a segment of the labor force which otherwise does not have easy access to health services.
On behalf of FMMCH, Dr J P Alva, dean, FMMC, Dr Padmaja Udyakumar, vice-dean, Dr Udyakumar, medical superintendent, Sr Janet D'Souza, chief nursing officer, Dr Anil Shetty of paediatrics department and David Sequeira, PRO were present.
Dharmendra Mehta, Dr Errol Pinto, Sudesh Karunakaran, Vinod Pinto, Lakshmeesh Bhandary, William D'Souza, Rajashekar and Louis J Pinto were present.
Fr Richard Coelho, administrator welcomed all the members. Dr J P Alva spoke briefly on how CREDAI Mangaluru and Father Muller started the partnership to provide healthcare to construction workers. Dr Anil Shetty coordinated the entire activity.
