Udupi, Nov 4: Recently, former Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP and former state minister, Jayaprakash Hegde, who has lot of following in the district, had divulged that he would soon choose his future political course. If current developments are of any indication, chances of Jayaprakash Hegde joining BJP are said to be very bright.
Jayaprakash Hegde, who is an advocate by profession, had won as MLA from Brahmavar constituency as an independent candidate thrice. In an informal meeting at Brahmavar in the taluk recently, Hegde's fans and followers discussed about the best course left to their leader in future.
As Hegde had walked out of Congress, angered at the fielding Pratapchandra Shetty again as party candidate for legislative council, his chances of joining the Congress are said to be bleak. He has differences with some top district Congress leaders. Although he had functioned as minister under H D Deve Gowda, with whom he has a good relationship even now, he may not choose JD(S) as this party does not have a firm base in the coast. Therefore, his followers expressed the general view that joining BJP happens to be the most sensible option available for him now.
There is information that the BJP's core committee which met at Bengaluru recently has approved the proposal to take Hegde into the party fold. There are people who have welcomed this move, and also those who are opposed to it. Hegde's clean and pro-people image might benefit BJP, many feel.
Hegde is likely to hold discussions with national level leaders of BJP before making a final decision. It is said that Hegde, who will be arriving at his native place on this Saturday or Sunday will be announcing his final decision soon.
