ANI

Rayya, Punjab, Jan 7 (mb): While most of us celebrated the arrival of New Year visiting restaurants with family and friends, members of the Idiot Club at Rayya in Punjab spent the time cutting a cake and dancing at a cremation ground.

Members sported specially made grotesque masks with colourful dresses. This year marked the 11th anniversary of the Idiot Club.

On this occasion, members of the Idiot Club - young and old alike - tapped their feet to popular Bollywood numbers and hundreds of curious people from the neighbourhood joined them in the revelry.

The Idiot Club members said that they chose the cremation ground for the event to fight the superstition that the cremation grounds are not auspicious.

"For 11 years we have been celebrating the New year this way. The motive behind this theme was to shun the people's beliefs regarding ghosts and phantoms. Since childhood kids are scared by the false ghostly characters, which are actually non-existent," said Rajinder Rikhi, President of the Idiot Club.

The Idiot Club, meanwhile, is enjoying the reputation that it has earned by celebrating the event in a cremation ground. .

"I got attracted to the Idiot Club, when I came to know how it was fighting superstitions said Rajinder Mahavedya, a resident of Nabha and member of Idiot Club.

Wait till the ‘Idiot Club’ next holds a marriage ceremony in a cremation ground!
