Mangaluru, Nov 5: The Bajpe police have arrested six accused in connection to theft of cows and attempt to mow down policemen under Bajpe limits a few days back.
A case relating to theft of three cows from a barn at Kolavoor in Kuppepadavu had been registered on November 1. The same day, the police on receiving information about one Nawaz tried to arrest him and his accomplices, during which the accused tried to mow down the policemen with their vehicle and managed to escape.
The accused were arrested on Saturday November 5 near Polali arch here by a team led by PSI Satish on instructions from Bajpe police inspector Nagaraj.
The accused have been identified as Nawaz alias Abdul Nawaz of Shantinagar, Kavoor (presently in Karambar), Mohammed Mansoor alias Manchu, a resident of KC Road, Kotekar, Imran (28) of Maripalla, Imitiaz (32), also of Maripalla, Bhatish (30), a resident of Adyar and Asgar alias Abbas (30) of KC Road, Kotekar.
Among them, the prime accused is Nawaz, who is said to have hatched the plot to steal the cows.
The police recovered three cars (two Swifts and a Ritz), mobile phones, cash, machete and other sharp tools from the accused.
Cases have been registered in Bajpe and Beltangady police stations under relevant sections of the IPC and the Arms Act.
A similar case of attempt by cattle traffickers to mow down policemen was reported in the wee hours of November 3 near Shirtady.
