Bengaluru: Two Kannada actors go missing after jumping into lake from helicopter

Bengaluru, Nov 7 (Agencies): The shooting of an action sequence for an upcoming Kannada movie turned tragic, when two actors who jumped off a copter into Tippagondanahalli reservoir, 35 km west of Bengaluru, were feared drowned on Monday afternoon.

The duo, Uday and Anil, jumped into the water around 2.48 pm. Panic spread when they did not emerge from water after the stipulated time. The fire and emergency services were immediately informed.

The duo was shooting for director Nagashekar's Maasti Gudi, featuring actor Duniya Vijay.

Vijay had also jumped with the duo, but swam to the shore on time. Sources said, the film star had a safety vest, but Uday and Anil were not provided with the same.

A boat was supposed to pick up the duo after they had jumped into the water. However, it is suspected that the delay in the boat reaching the spot might have resulted in the tragedy.

A fire tender was stationed at the lake as part of the safety arrangement at the shooting location, said fire control room officials. Around 3 pm, the control room received a call from the unit on the ground, requesting for a search and rescue team after the duo was feared drowned.

The unit was immediately pressed into service. After two hours, more units were called.

Industry insiders call Uday a promising and hard working actor, who was always ready to do anything for a film. Initially known to be a stunt double, he rose to fame as the villain in Duniya Vijay starrer Jayammana Maga . He has since acted in many other films as villain.

Anil, known for his eight-pack abs, has acted in over 25 films and was also shooting for the under-production films Hebbuli and Bharjari . His colleagues compliment him as a silent worker.

Education system is responsible. I am sure many will Disagree but it is fact. We are not matured enough to take our own decisions. Most of our decisions are always towards sympathy on other elements. In this case, actors might wanted to keep the promise and producer/stunt director are just trying to get job done.

looks people are confused. some are writing on producers, some are writing on safety measures. Yes, that's true. But I also read they didn't wear the life jackets and wanted to make the stunt look real. Also telling let's show all what are we kind of. So, depends on the actual situation we can blame who is the culprit here. With out knowing it... just like that commenting on producer, director... not sure how right it is.

It is said in the press that the duo did not know to swim. In such a case they should not have undertaken the stunt.

It is unfortunate that two precious lives are lost

To all the want to be actors out there. If the directors don't provide you with life jackets or any other safety equipment needed for the stunt. Please don't jump, just walk away from the contract. No stunt at the cost of your life.

May be life vest was not given to make the action sequence more real. The main actor was provided with the life vest and co-actor's must have been unable to come out of the mud at the bottom of the lake after jumping from such a height.

This might be a death under mysterious circumstances.

Both actors are rising stars in film industry.

Why the diesel rescuing boat failed to start when the tragedy took place. It is the duty of the over all Safety team Manager, to make sure, the diesel rescuing boat is in starting position before the shooting of the movie action takes place and the boat is ready to move in the water instantly without delay, in any eventuality.

Lost very good actors, Uday and Anil.

    RIP to Uday and Anil.

Very tragic turn of events. The film production team (including the Director) are to be held criminally negligent and punished as per most stringent provisions of the law, for the unfortunate loss of lives of these two budding actors.

May the souls of these innocent victims Rest in Peace.

Reel life and real life to the not so main actors is Roti Kapda Makhan question. When they perform stunts without any safeguards - it is near death experience. The Film Industry must implement the safety measures while shooting action packed stunt actions. Safety first and action next ought to be policy.
