Mangaluru, Nov 9: It is gathered that the gas pipeline between the city and Bengaluru has become functional. The pipeline which passes through Hassan and reaches Yediyur near Bengaluru has successfully undergone test run, sources said.
With this, the number of bullet tankers moving between these two cities is expected to drastically fall from 200 to around 50. Pressure on highway will come down, and the chances of accidents at Shiradi ghat, most of which were involving bullet tankers, are likely to come down.
It is gathered that the work on pipeline between Yediyur and Solur on the outskirts of Bengaluru, which is of about 41 km in length, is under way and may take some more time for completion. Now, gas is being pumped to Yediyur where bottling of cylinders and loading of tankers is undertaken. The pipeline follows stringent safety standards and pressure on the pipeline is monitored through modern system, it is learnt.
