Mangaluru: Second phase of parallel taxiway to come up soon at airport

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Nov 10: The international airport here will be equipped with second phase of parallel connecting taxiway. This taxiway is used by aircraft to move towards the terminal building after landing.

The taxiway is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 111.14 crore. Airports Authority of India Ltd, which is executing the project, has stipulated 24 months time for its completion. Tender process has already begun.

Currently, aircraft are compelled to use the same taxiway when leaving the terminal building as the airport has only one taxiway now, which involves a delay of a few minutes for the arrival and departure of aircraft. Once the new taxiway is built, aircraft need not wait for the taxiway to be cleared by the aircraft already using it.

    Mr.Krithin Shetty,

Mangalore Airport is surviving because of Kerala and Bhatkali pax's and not because of local Mangalore / Udupi pax's. Please correct yourself. The present flights would reduce once Cannanore ( Kozhikode ) Airport is ready and with a much longer runway ( than Mangalore ) for much larger aircraft. Emirates will certainly fly to Kozhikode and not to Mangalore.

Parallel taxiway is good initiative. But was it necessary then the Runway lengthening? which is prime importance of safety and wide body aircraft can land. And i dont think Managlore airport is such busy airport that every five minute a flight takes off or lands??

How many crores is gone into pockets of crooks? Hope the parallel taxiway will be safe. What about other amenities? They need to add more conveyer belts for luggage as sometimes we can see people of three flights waiting for their luggage early in the morning. Hope the authorities look into all aspects for the convenience of public as travellers pay heavy tax and no benefit.

What you mention as 8000 ft runway is safety length of the runway for a A320 or for a B737.
Any larger aircrafts from A330 or other Boeings apart from B737s need safety length of 12000 ft.

Apart from parallel taxi way, if they install “Instrumental Landing System” it will help all the carrier to land in foggy condition too… Now a day, many times it happens early morning flights are diverted to Kochi and people suffer for extended stay in the air craft!!!!
