Bangalore, Jan 9: Gopinath, Babajaan, Lingamma, Fathimabi, Ramachandra Rao, Maangilal, Cariappa, Inayathulla... all live in the same house as part of a 330-member family at 17/1, Padmanabhanagar, formerly Ward 55. The house is situated on three roads: Subramanyanagar main road, Netaji road and Muneshwara temple.
No conundrum this, but howlers in the draft voter list of Uttarahalli assembly constituency. Check out part number 781 (no. 1821 to 2175) to sample this shocker. Uttarahalli, the biggest assembly segment in Asia, would then also lay claim to the credit of having the highest number of voters in a house. And, as a copy of the list in possession of The Times of India shows, the house has three addresses. The roll shows a total of 2175 voters (1088 male and 1087 female) in Padmanabhanagar. "This list has been put out after extensive revision," screams a communication.
There are other blunders too: house No. 4/10 on Kadirenahalli main road has 59 votes; 32/1 on Kadirenahalli main road has 18 votes; 47/5 on Thimmaiah road has 26 votes; 28/A on Food office road has 51 votes; 20/8 at Kadirenahalli circle has 54 votes and No. 47/10 at Kadirenahalli circle has 49 votes.
The Citizen Action Forum (CAF), which sensitizing voters, conducted a door-to-door survey in these areas to check the authenticity of the list. Its president N S Mukunda says, "The list has glaring discrepancies... No. 17/1 and other houses with over 50 members don’t exist."
After the revised list is announced, the CAF plans to conduct another survey and bring any discrepancy to the notice of the Election Commission.
