Udupi, Nov 12: "Our constitution has given us right to live as per the tenets of the religion we practice. If the government meddles with Shariat law, we will be compelled to fight back," said district Qazi, Shaikhuna Bekal Ustad.
He was speaking after inaugurating a protest meeting organized under the aegis of the district union of Sunni organizations opposite Clock Tower near service bus stand here, against the moves like doing away with triple talaq provision, proposal to enforce uniform civil code etc on Friday November 11.
He warned that the government will be solely responsible for repercussions if any if it implements decision to bar triple talaq system without holding consultation with Muslim scholars.
Sunni Students Federation state president, Maulana N K M Shaffi Saadi, in his address, warned the government of filing case against it if it interferes in basic rights of Muslims and tries to ammend Shariat principles and enforce uniform civil code. He advised the government to restrict itself to people-friendly measures like regulating black money. He asked the government not to play political gimmicks in connection with Uttar Pradesh politics and warned that 20 crore Muslims in the country will come together and fight against the government if their democratic rights are curtailed, as every Muslim has the responsibility of protecting Islam and Shariat.
Taufeeq Abdulla presided over the meeting. Advocate, Hamzat Hejamady, delivered introductory address. Ashraf Raza Amjadi welcomed. Abdurrahman Rizi Kalkatta presented the programme. Assayyed Koteshwar Tangal performed Dua.
