Chikkamagaluru, Nov 12: Even before many people could get know how a Rs 2,000 currency note looks and feels like, manufacturers of fake currency notes have baffled the people by putting into circulation fake currency notes of this denomination. One such note was received by Ashok, an onion merchant conducting business at APMC market yard here.
It is said that the onion merchant was away from his shop briefly when someone tendered a Rs 2,000 note to the boy handling the affairs at the shop in Ashok's absence. The boy readily accepted the note, thinking that it was the genuine new note. But Ashok, on his return, could instantly feel by its touch that it was a fake currency note. Apparently, it was a crude copy of the original but sufficient to cheat the gullible.
A minute examination of the borders of the note reveals that the sides are pruned with the help of scissors. The seven lines a genuine note bears on the side are not visible on this note. The corners are not very clear. The merchant said he would file police complaint about this note.
