Mangaluru, Nov 13: "Under 'Digital India' concept, free Wifi connection is being provided to all the 400 railway stations in the country that are categorized as A and A1," said Dakshina Kannada MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel. He said that for the first time in Karnataka state, central railway station in the city has been free Wifi-enabled.
Kateel was speaking after initiating the Wifi facility at the central railway station here on Friday November 12.
Kateel informed that during the current year, railway department has planned to provide free Wifi facility in 100 railway stations. He said that in Kerala, this facility has already been provided in five stations, and that Google has partnered with railways in providing Wifi connectivity to railway stations and Railtel Corporation is implementing this scheme.
Speaking on the occasion, local MLA, J R Lobo, asked the MP to put his weight behind the upgradation of the station into world class one as already promised. MLC, Ivan D'Souza, and zilla panchayat president, Meenakshi Shantigodu, also addressed the gathering.
Former city corporator, Bhaskarchandra Shetty, divisional manager of southern railway, Naresh Lalwani, member of railway advisory committee, Ahmed Bava, and railway action committee member, Hanumant Kamat were among those present on the occasion.
