Man in property dispute kills 3 daughters & self, spares wife & son


Mumbai, Nov 13 (TOI): A 40-year-old man, embroiled in a property dispute with his father, brother and sister-in-law, poisoned his three young daughters before killing himself at his Sakinaka residence on Saturday morning. Only on Friday , the deceased, Mangesh Aanerao, had been summoned to police station to sort out the matter.

Mangesh lived in a chawl at Mohali Pipeline with wife Madhura, son Ameya (7) and daughters Harshada (4), Ananya and Aarohi (twins aged 1).He was out of job for the past two years and had taken to the bottle, with his family going through financial difficulties. "The house that he lived in belonged to his father Raja ram, who wanted to sell it and split the sale pro ceeds into three shares --for his sons Mangesh and Narendra and him self. But Mangesh oppo sed the plan as it would've left his family homeless," senior inspector Avinash Dharmadhikari of Sakinaka police station said.

On Friday , Madhura's sister who had come for a visit stayed overnight. A 40-year-old man poisoned his three young daughters before killing himself at his Sakinaka residence on Saturday morning.Mangesh Aanerao, the deceased, was embroiled in a property dispute with his father, brother and sister-in-law.

Around 6am on Saturday , Mangesh sent wife Madhura and son Ameya with Madhura's sister to a relative's place in Mira Road. He told Madhura to fetch some cash for the house. Around 7am, neighbours spotted him speaking on the phone with one of his three sisters. He was asking her to come over.

At 9am, when one of his sisters reached Mangesh's house, she found him and his three daughters lying on the floor with blood dripping from their mouths.

"Preliminary investigations show that Mangesh administered black granules of a pesticide to Harshada, Aarohi and Ananya before consuming it himself between 7am and 9am. A murder case is being registered against him," a police officer said. A suicide note in Marathi was taped to the table. The note instructed the finder to "not touch anything in the house and inform the police first".

Mangesh wrote that he had funded his mother's cancer treatment extensively but his family (father and brother) claimed he didn't.

"They are trying to sell the house and throw me out.I'm killing myself because I cannot take their harassment anymore. I believe that after my death my daughters may not be looked for, so I'm taking them with me. I'm not brave enough to take the lives of my wife and son," the note said. Police found a bottle of pesticide next to some tea and milk. The bottle, which was emanating a foul odour, has been sent to the forensic science laboratory for examination.

"Rajaram (75) had visited Sakinaka police station's family grievances redressal cell and complained that Mangesh wasn't vacating his house. On Friday , the police had summoned Mangesh around noon and he was asked to vacate the house in a month.But he lost his cool and said he would vacate it in four days. I brought him home and tried to calm him down. But I had never imagined that he would kill his daughters and himself," said Prashant Yadav, a close friend.

Police summoned Rajaram, Narendra and his wife, all based in Kalyan, to the Sakinaka police station for inquiries on Saturday . The bodies were sent for an autopsy to the Rajawadi postmortem centre. Police will probe the contents of the pesticide and where was it procured from.The murder case registered against Mangesh would be closed due to his death.
