Demonetisation : 15 deaths in four days - Report

New Delhi, Nov 14 (Huff Post) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi said yesterday it will take another 50 days for normalization of currency usage in the country. That may take a huge toll on people, going by 15 deaths that have taken place in just four days. And these are just the ones that got reported.

In Mumbai, a hospital refused to admit an ill newborn because the parents didn't have legal tender. The child died. The government has allowed the use of old currency notes only in government-run hospitals.

An 18 month old baby died in Vizag as the parents didn't have money to buy medicines. The private hospital refused to accept old currency notes of Rs 500 or 1,000.

Doctors in Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh stopped treating one year old Kush, suffering from high fever, after his parents ran out of 100 rupee notes. The parents brought him home, where he soon died, his father's 500 rupee notes now worthless.

In Pali district of Rajasthan, the ambulance wouldn't take Champalal Meghwal's new born to hospital as he only had Rs 500 and 1,000 notes. By the time Meghwal arranged 100 rupee notes, the child had died.

In Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh, a washerwoman came to know of demonetisation only when she reached a bank to deposit two 1,000 rupee notes she had saved. When told these were no longer legal tender, she died of shock.

Kandukuri Vinoda, 55, a home-maker in Mahubabad district of Telangana, thought her cash savings of Rs 54 lakh were now worthless. She had earned the cash by selling land to pay for her husband's treatment, daughter's dowry and buy a smaller piece of land. She committed suicide.

In Howrah, West Bengal, a man tense over demonetisation murdered his wife because she returned empty handed from the ATM. He felt she should have waited longer in the queue.

In Kaimur district of Bihar, a 45 year old man died of a massive heart attack as he feared his daughter's would-be in-laws may no longer accept his old currency notes in dowry. He had saved up Rs 35,000.

In Thalassery, Kerala, a 45 year man went to deposit Rs 5 lakh for the second day, after being unsuccessful on the first. He fell from the second floor while filling the deposit slip and died. An employee of the state electricity board, the man had taken the money as loan just the previous day. Local media reports said he was disturbed as he had not been able to change the currency notes.

Vishwas Vartak, 72, died of a massive heart attack while waiting to deposit old currency notes at a bank in Mumbai.

A 47 year old farmer had a heart attack waiting to exchange old currency notes in Tarapur in Gujarat. He needed money to pay farm labour.

In Alappuzha, Kerala, 75 year old Karthikeyan collapsed before a bank and died. He had been waiting for an hour in the queue.

In Udupi in Karnataka, a 96 year old man died waiting in a long queue at the bank, and the bank hadn't even opened yet.

69 year old Vinay Kumar Pandey, a retired BSNL employee, died waiting in a queue at the bank to exchange currency notes in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh.

In Bhopal, a State Bank of India cashier died of heart attack. Bank employees have been putting in extra hours and handling large queues.

A businessman in Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh, felt chest pain soon after watching prime minister Narendra Modi's 8 November announcement of demonetisation. He died before the doctor could arrive.

READTHIS: Many ppl say that this move by Modi government is affecting the common man more than the one who has hoarded black money. They say, this should have been done without affecting the common man.

But the common man is part of the system that created black money.

    1. Common man is the one who goes and gets his groceries from a retail shop for cheaper price, knowing that the retail shop hardly pays any tax at all.
    2. Common man is the one who prepares fake rental agreements and shows it as proof for HRA.
    3. Common man is the one who pays bribe (through black money) to a government official, just to make out work easier.
    4. Common man is the one who accepted Rs. 500/1000 (Black money) from both political parties that are contesting elections.
    5. Common man is the one who purchases a product without bill, to save money (thereby creating black money)
    6. Common man is the one gives maamool (black money) to the police for keeping their illegal shops
    7. Common man is the one who offers bribe (black money) to the police for drunk and drive, not wearing a helmet, etc. instead of paying heavy fines at the court. Same way police collects cash "Hafta" from all hawkers traders etc. Municipal staff, rail staff and many others collect bribes all cash.

    8. Common man is the one who saves money little by little and purchases property and registers for under market value to save money (thereby creating black money)
    9. Common man is the one who gives donation (Black money) to a private school who won't give a bill
    10. Common man is the one who doesn't even understand that he is entitled to far more privileges than he/she is currently receiving, which is drastically reduced to corruption/black money
    11. Common man is the one who complains about the corrupt system but doesn't take any steps to correct the system, but instead keeps on playing the blame game.
I have always heard people saying if there is political will,we can change the sytstem.Hereis MODI,who hasthe will. Now supp

Stop lecturing the public. BJP is not a saint.

Its a well known fact that feku had received 1000's of crores from rich industrialists in exchange for economic favours.

We have seen how modi used Adani's plane and how Reliance have reaped rich benefits after modi has become a P.M.

Why no action against 'Panama' Bachchan and 'Panama' Devgan?

Why have Mallya, Lalit Modi been allowed to escape?

Indians can lay down their life for the country.

This demonitization move has nothing for them nor for country.
People see people with black money already converted into white or people already moved out of the country - royally like mallya. Counterfiet currency has already started floating in the market.

Further, it will take billions of rupees of tax payer money to dispose the old currency and mint new currency. Everything has a cost.

So, this is Modi move is nothing but a marketed surgical strike on middle class indians.

Poor people are dying. Instead of Acche din Marneka Din Aye. They can't buy one time food as they do not have money. Bank's ATM Card is not with them as they are poor and no account in the bank. Rick drivers do not have customers, shops do not have customers. Big co-ops such as Spar, Big Bazar, Courier Service, Private / charity hospitals already put a big board saying As per the Government Directives we do not accept Rs.500 and rs. 1000 notes. In this case where poor people will go? how they will purchase daily grocery for their children and for themselves?how they can purchase medicine.

The decision to scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes seems entirely a political gimmic of bjp while it has come at a time when assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh are due and parties normally keep aside a substantial amount of unaccounted funds for campaigning. As Kejdiwal rightly said Bjp has already made proper arrangement prior to the introduce.

While people in the rest of the country are queuing up outside banks for cash , there is an eerie calm in Kaliachak in Madla district. Following the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes , life has virtually come to standstill in India's counterfeit capital.

Figures reveal how large is the fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) business in the area. This year, district police seized Rs 1.14 crore in fake currency. In the last two years, 180 cases of FICN have been lodged at the local police station and 240 people, mainly couriers, arrested.

Certainly there is difficulty with change in our daily routine.. , with regard to smaller denomination why so much cry..either all are holding back smaller denomination or vanished from market and trading only in 2000..earlier too at times we have issue to get change of 500/1000..
Those who didn't vote for Mr.Modi, will have every positive reasons to get negative news.. but majority have voted him to power and accepted this move by govt..He is best P.M we ever had...Jai Hind..

After lives have been lost due to non acceptance of old notes what use are these for the family of the children or elders who lost their lives. Tell me who should be tried for the death of month old children. How come many people in Gujarat have been collecting bundles of 100 since a couple of months???

What matters is the loss of lives because of this mess which was created by one person who thinks he know everything. Do you think introducing Rs 2000 notes will eradicate black money. With this higher denomination notes it will only double in a few years. What will he do next - will he the Rs 2000 note as illegal. Please note that just because he has power he cant play with people's lives. It is very easy for him to give speeches (which are actually written by others!!!) and fly out of the country the next day. Do you have the count of the number of foreign trips he has made in the last 2 years using hundred of crores of Tax payers money like you and me. I am sorry but the situation is very grave for us. He doesnt have to stand in the line for hours to get Rs 2000 or 2500. These are just a couple of instances. There might be much much more which went un-reported and much more in rural areas.

Known black money holders, such as real estate guys and baba ramdev's are never seen infront of the ATM'S.

Further, news paper in Gulf indicates a NRI gets INR160,000 exchanging old currency when he was in India few days back.

All this shows - there is a huge scam & Modi transformed life of middle class to hell, while the real black money holders are having a good time all the black money to white.

    K. S. Mayya, Mangalore/Bangalore
    Saturday, November 12, 2016

    @ J Gonsalves,
You are very superficial, and you know that. A Child died because hospital refused to accept 500 and 1000? Why is the hospital handling huge black money that they cannot take any more 500 and 1000 notes? Which hospital are you talking about in Bannur and Puttur? Or, are you lying like you always do?

    Unquote.

Dear K. S. Mayya, I hope you are a learned man. How come you are commenting blindly.

Without any proof I am not commenting in the daijiworld web portal.

    I quote daijiworld todays news:
In Mumbai, a hospital refused to admit an ill newborn because the parents didn't have legal tender. The child died. The government has allowed the use of old currency notes only in government-run hospitals. Unquote.

The infant's death was in Mumbai government hospital. Not in BANNUR, PUTTUR HOSPITAL.

There was window created for balck money holders to disclose & come clean. In a change of this magnitude happens some untoward happenings occur.
