Misleading report on social media: Case registered against accused by Dharmasthala police

Daijiworld Media Network – Beltangady

Beltangady, Jul 5: In connection with the circulation of a letter on social media, wherein an individual expressed willingness to provide information about criminal activities that occurred in Dharmasthala village, a team of lawyers had visited the district police office on behalf of the said individual. However, during their visit, the district superintendent of police was reportedly unavailable.

Following this, a person named Sudarshan Belalu deliberately published false and fear-inducing information on a web news channel called Hosa Kannada, claiming it to be factual reporting. It was found that the report was made without verifying whether the lawyer team had prior permission to meet the police superintendent or investigating the reason for the officer's unavailability.

The Dharmasthala police summoned the accused Sudarshan Belalu for inquiry regarding the report. During the investigation, it was established that the accused had broadcast misleading information without verifying any facts or possessing any valid evidence or documentation to support the claims made in the report.

As a result, a case has been registered against Sudarshan Belalu at the Dharmasthala police station under Crime No. 40/2025, Sections 352 and 353(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further legal action will be initiated as per procedure.
