Bengaluru, Nov 15: It is gathered that most of the dignitaries and political leaders from the state and centre have decided not to attend the lavish wedding ceremony of former minister, Janardhana Reddy's daughter, Brahmani, at palace grounds here on November 16. Although top leaders of BJP, Congress and JDS were personally invited by Reddy to the marriage, almost all of them are said to be wary about attending the function.
Meanwhile BJP high command has asked its members not to attend Reddy's daughter's wedding. BJP leaders have accordingly changed their plans now.
The leaders are worried about getting their images sullied at a time hue and cry is heard in the country about black money hoarded in the country. Attending the marriage function is likely to send a wrong signal, which might be capitalized on by the rivals, they feel. Another problem that is bothering these leaders is the relevance of attending wedding of such a grand scale at a time when most of the districts in the state are reeling under drought.
The list of absentees includes Siddaramaiah, H D Deve Gowda, B S Yeddyurappa, Ananth Kumar, D V Sadananda Gowda and H D Kumaraswamy. These leaders may confirm their participation in some public programmes on the day so that they have an excuse to tell Reddy family the reason for their absence. The national leaders are already equipped with a reason, as sessions of both the houses of the parliaments will begin on Wednesday.
