M'lore: Kavita Fest on Jan 12, Vinita Bags 1st Prize in All-India Poetry Contest

Mangalore, Jan 11: Vinita Ashok Naik, SSLC student of Sharada High School, Marcella, Goa has bagged the first prize in All India children's poetry competition conducted by Kavita Trust, a trust from Mangalore which works for the promotion and promulgation of Konkani poetry, for her poem 'Ardhuk'. She would be presented with cash award of Rs 2 thousand and certificate. Jonathan Baptista, Class VI student of Manovikas English Medium School , Madgaon, Goa has bagged the second prize for his pom 'Yek Prashn?' He will be presented with cash award of Rs 1 thousand and certificate. Prajyothi Shirodkar, SSLC student of Chubby Cheeks Valley High School, Pilerna, Goa has bagged the third prize for her poetry 'Mhojea Ganvchi Vaatt'. She will be presented with cash award of Rs 750 and certificate.

The prizes will be presented during 'Kavita Fest' which will be held at 5.00 pm on Saturday, January 12, at St Aloysius College IT Auditorium (Eric Mathias Hall). Eminent Kannada writer and poetess Vaidehi will deliver the keynote address on the occasion. 'Ankri' poetry book authored by Maxim Lobo, Italy and 'Kovllea Pavlamchim Navlam' anthology of 45 poems by various poets, compiled and edited by Melvyn Rodrigues, will be released on the same occasion.

Yousuf Sheikh, well-known Konkani poet from Goa will conduct the poetry session. Konkani poets Steven Quadros, Avina Miyar, Ashok Chodankar, Pandarinath Lotlikar, Elyer Taccode, Kannada poets Jyoti Guruprasad, Dr Kavita Rai will attend the poetry session. Tulu poets Catherine Rodrigues and Dr Ganesh Amin Sankmar will recite their poetry. Poets Mohammed Baddoor and P K Basheer Ahmed will represent Beary language.

The entire programme would be of two and half hours' duration and the organizers urged large number of people to attend.
