Mangaluru, Nov 18: Vidyagiri in Moodbidri near here wore a magnificent look as Alva's Nudisiri, the cultural festival that attracts people from around the world, took off on a grand note on Friday November 18. The entire campus was decorated with diversified cultural show pieces. The majestic cavalcade spellbound the visitors and made them lose themselves for a couple of minutes.

The grand inaugural of the Alva’s Nudisiri 2016 was witnessed by an audience of 40,000 at the Rathnakaravarni stage at Vidyagiri, Moodbidri.

Delivering the presidential address, Sanskrit scholar and president of Alva's Nudisiri-2016, Dr B N Sumithra Bai said, “Tomorrow is an unreal concept. People have created it because they find the contemporary conditions uncomfortable and hope better for the next day. In real, tomorrows are an amalgamation of today and yesterday. Both the past and the future consist each other within.

"It may be political system, literature, art or culture, there is a serious lack of people who discuss and promote culture in an unbiased manner. Commoners must be aware of people who propagate culture with an inclination towards self-benefit, for they are making no contribution towards promoting cultures or building better tomorrows. Only when all the aspects of a society are open-minded and unbiased, there is scope for art and culture to take unmatched forms and contribute towards development," she opined.

Commenting on media, Dr Bai said, "Mass media, while expected to play the role of ambassadors towards building a better tomorrow, are not living up to their expected standards. While the electronic media are easily capturing people’s minds, even print media are trying to keep up the wrong way. This is not a right trend if we intend to build a better tomorrow for the state, and should be changed first," she added. She also said that women writers are the pioneers of women's empowerment movements, and women’s literature deserves more emphasized recognition.

Inaugurating Alva’s Nudisiri 2016, litterateur Dr Jayanth Gowreesh Kaikini said, "Art and culture are those aspects of society, which can unite people transcending all boundaries. Society and culture have grown hand in hand, and every little form of art is a key for progress. That can be justified by the fact that cultures are a mixture of a number of things, and variety flourishes while homogeneity extincts”, he added. He critically told, religion and culture are not the concern of filled appetites. Culture shouldn’t be treated like museum, which turns useless and dusty; instead we treat it as garden, where every cold breeze makes feel better each day.

Dr B N Sumithra Bai and Dr Jayanth Kaikini were felicitated during the programme.

A number of literary works including stamps and postal envelops from postal department of India concerning cultural aspects were released. Musical presentations added to the grandeur of the show.

Chairman of Alva's Education Foundation Dr M Mohan Alva, Kannada Sahithya Parishad president Manu Baligar, former minister Amarnath Shetty, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik were present, among others.
