Mangalore: Foreign Kite-flyers to Arrive for Intl Fest

Mangalore, Jan 15: According to a press note received from Nitin J Shetty of Team Mangalore here on Monday January 14, several kite-flyers from abroad will be reaching the city on Wednesday January 16 and Thursday January 17 to participate in the 'ONGC-MRPL International Kite Festival 2008.' 

The foreign participants have brought with them several beautiful kites each differing from the other in design, colour and size.  A press conference with the foreign kite-flyers will be held on January 16 at 7 pm, informed the press note. Venue will be announced very soon.






The foreign countries taking part in the kite festival and its participants are as follows:

Van Hoven and Johan from Belgium, Dom Martin from France, Michael Wengenmayr and Simon Engelbert from Germany, Maarten Van Hienen from Holland, Bagus Ugrasena and Helmy Ginanti (Elly) from Indonesia,

Edoardo Borghetti and Barbara Villa from Italy, Kang Bumku and Hyun Woo Han from Korea, Abdul Halim Samad and Siti Hasnah Ghani from Malaysia, Raymond De Graaf from Netherlands, Don Mock from USA, Bob Cruikshanks, Karl Longbottom and Sara Longbottom from the UK. 



 

The schedule of workshops as enumerated in the release is as follows: 

On Friday 18 January from 11 am to 12.30 pm a kite-making workshop will be held at St Agnes Special School here.

A kite- making workshop for the students of the Saanidhya Residential School for the Mentally Challenged and the students of DK Zilla Panchayat Model Higher Primary School of  Nalyapadavu Shaktinagar here will be held on the same day from 4 pm to 6 pm.

This will be followed by kite-flying activity by some foreign flyers to entertain the children at the high school ground in the city at Nalyapadavu Shaktinagar.     


 

From 10 pm to 5 pm there will be a kite flying activity by foreign kite-flyers at Mata Amritanandamayee school at Sultan Battery here.

The press note from Team Mangalore informed that at the workshops the foreign kite-flyers will teach the children to make kites of their respective countries. Basically it will involve making a kite, colouring and flying it. This type of activity has been done before too for children and it makes them very happy. Infact the mentally challenged children find it very exciting, the press note added. 

Lastly, the note stated that when Team Mangalore goes abroad, they conduct kite workshops to make Indian fighter kites.
