Udupi, Jan 16: Even as a 'secret formula' has been proposed to solve the row over Sugunendra Theertha swamiji's Paryaya, several speculations have been doing the rounds.
Though the majority of Ashta Matadhipathis had urged Sugunendra Theertha swamiji to induct a junior from the Krishnapura Mutt, Dwandwa Mutt pontiff Vidyasagara Theertha swamiji, and make him ascend the Paryaya Sarvajna Peetha and perform pooja, Sugunendra Theertha had categorically rejected the demand.
Even if he had accepted the demand, he would have to wait till the beginning of Uttarayana (January 15) for an auspicious muhurtham for the induction of a junior. The ritual relating to induction, including last rituals of the junior's parents, require at least one day to perform.
Moreover, if a junior is chosen by Puttige seer before renouncing the world, he will have to visit his friends and close relatives for the last time as an ordinary human being.
Even if a junior is inducted, he cannot immediately start performing pooja as he is required to observe Chathurmasa, which is six months from now. Till then, any other of the Ashta Matadhipathis will have to perform Krishna Pooja on behalf of the Puttige Mutt. With only 48 hours left for the Paryaya, the option of Shishya Sweekara can be ruled out.
On the other hand, religious scholars have been opposing Sugunendra Theertha ascending the Paryaya Sarvajna Peetha and performing Srikrishna Pooja, because of his foreign visit.
But Pejawar Mutt pontiff Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji, in spite of opposition by scholars, is ready to move from his stand to the extent of allowing Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji to ascend the Sarvajna Peetha and getting the poojas done by his junior or any of the Ashta Matadhipathis.
Meanwhile, Pejawar seer while talking to media mooted an idea of splitting the responsibilities of Paryaya period. He said: ''Ascending the Sarvajna Peetha, performing Sri Krishna Pooja and managing the administration of Krishna Mutt are totally different things and not inter-related.''
Now that a secret formula has been proposed, the solution is likely to revolve around the theme of split responsibilities.
