Udupi, Nov 28: Udupi district Congress committee on Monday November 28 held a protest near at Clock Tower here as part of 'Aakrosh Diwas' against demonetisation.
KPCC secretary and district Congress leader M A Gafoor said, "Modi is ignorant about the history of India. He is trying to sideline the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri and Indira Gandhi. Initially, Congress also welcomed Modi's decision in curbing black money, but when he mocked the common man of India during his Japan tour immediately after the note ban, it showed how much concern he has for the ordinary citizens of the country. We have examples of negative growth after note ban in countries like Belgium, North Korea and South Korea.
"The decision to withdraw high denomination currency notes was taken by the UPA government as early as 2005, but the BJP which was the principal opposition party then, had raised strong objections at that time. The same party is now justifying its act. This decision is to protect Ambani and Adani and not to curb black money," he added.
District Congress leader Udyavar Nagesh Kumar addressing the protesters said, "Instead of punishing black money hoarders Modi is punishing farmers, daily wagers and the poor by making them stand in bank queues. The rupee is falling against the dollar. GDP has decreased from 5.8 % to 1 %. There are also chances of rising food problems and unemployment in the coming days. The result of the survey via Modi app is unacceptable as only 0.07% of the people are using that app."
President of City Municipal Council, Meenakshi Madhava Bannanje, members of City Municipal Council Udupi, Congress activists and supporters were present.

Kundapur, Nov 28: Marking 'Aakrosh Diwas' against the central government's move to demonetise high denomination currency, the Kundapur block Congress, Youth Congress and Congress women's wing in Kundapur held protests near Shastri circle here on Monday November 28.
The protesters set fire to photocopies of 500 and 1,000 rupee notes to drive home their point.
Addressing the protest, Youth Congress president Ichhitartha Shetty said that the belief of the common man that the BJP government led by Narendra Modi works with determination for the development of the country has been proven false. "The government has pushed poor people to agony on the pretext of doing away with black money. It announced holidays for the banks against the Constitution and did not allow people to withdraw their legitimate money for their needs," he said.
Kundapur block congress president Malyadi Shivarama Shetty and senior leader B Herianna said the decision to ban currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes without prior arrangements by the Modi government could not be forgiven. "As a result, people have been waiting in front of the banks for hours for the last twenty days just to get two thousand rupees. People are finding it difficult to attend to any of their other needs and committments because of it," they alleged.
Devaki Sannayya, Ganesh Sherugar, Sridhara Sheregar, Vikas Hegde and others were present.
