M'lore: Pradeep Menezes Successfully Defends Doctoral Thesis

Mangalore, Jan 17: Pradeep Lancy Menezes, hailing from Puttur has successfully defended his doctoral thesis entitled “Role of Surface Texture on Friction and Transfer Layer Formation" at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore on Wednesday January 16. His thesis is a study "using pin-on-plate sliding tester.”
Menezes is the eldest son of Fredrick and Cecilia Menezes. He is an alumnus of Mai De Deus higher primary school, St Philomena’s Boys high school, St Philomena’s college and Mangalore University. He obtained his M. Tech from the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), where he secured the top rank and a gold medal.
Menezes has carried out extensive research in the area of metal forming and tribology under the supervision of Prof Kailas, of the department of mechanical engineering, IISc. Bangalore. He has already published more than 35 research articles in international journals and conferences. Moreover, he is also the author of a research book published by Elsevier, UK.
Menezes is credited with having developed new ideas in the field of materials and mechanical engineering. He has given extensive lectures and has even built-up a questionnaire bank. Moreover he has designed the web pages for the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), which has been recently launched by MHRD, Government of India.
This has been launched with the objective to enhance the quality of engineering education in the country, by developing a curriculum-based web course. He has also delivered lectures in the field of Nano Technology at the institution of engineers in Mangalore city and in many colleges across Karnataka.
Further Menezes has guided more than 30 M.Tech, B.E/B.Tech and M.D.S. students in their project work. In 2005, one of his highly cited research article, published by the American Society of Mechanical Engineer (ASME) was presented at World Tribology Congress III in Washington D.C, USA.
This article infact made such a great impact on the field of mechanical engineering, that it was cited as the top article of the year 2006. His profile was also published in the 25th silver Anniversary edition of Marquis 'Who’s who in the World', published in November 2007. Impressed by his achievements, he even got an offer to continue his research work in the University of Colorado, United States of America.
