Udupi, Jan 17: The ascension of Shri Sugunendrateertha Swamiji of Puthige Math to Paryaya Peetha is almost sure.  But this process which has already begun in the evening on Thursday January 17 evening received a big jolt after Swamijis of 6 Maths out of the total 8 Maths (Astha Maths) decided to boycott Paryaya. Accordingly for the first time in the history of Udupi Math, Paryaya will be held in the absence of 6 Swamijis.

The final meeting with a hope of arriving at a favourable consensus between Puthige Swamiji and Pejawar Swamiji was held at 7.30 pm.  However, the meeting ended on a wrong note with none of them willing to compromise from their stance. This led to the boycotting of Paryaya by 6 Swamijis who are opposing Puthige Swamiji under the leadership of Pejawar Swamiji.

Meanwhile, Shri Laxmivarateertha Swamiji of Shiroor Math has decided to participate in this Paryaya. He has been supporting Puthige Swamiji right from the beginning. This means that for the first time Swamijis of Pejavar, Admar, Palimar, Kaniyoor, Krishnapur and Sodhe Maths will not be taking part in the Paryaya.

Meanwhile the Paryaya celebrations have started in full swing.  Devotees are thronging in thousands to Udupi to participate in Paryaya.  Police have deployed extra security to meet any unwanted situation in the wake of controversy surrounding the Paryaya.

Pejawar Swamiji has opposed the participation of Puthige Swamiji in Sri Krishna Puja as he had been abroad. But Puthige Swamiji has stood firm in conducting Sri Krishna Puja during his tenure.

Puthige Swamiji will take holy dip in Dandateertha, located near Kaup and later he will be coming on a grand procession to Krishna Math, from Jodumarga. Live tableaux depicting the sequences from Ramayana, Mahabharatha and Bhagavathgita, traditional and folk dance troupes, music bands will bring colour to the procession. Dignitaries, celebrities, representatives of the people and scholars will also join the procession.  However Mathadhipathies of Ashta Maths will not join him in separate palanquins for the first time following a boycott.
