Dubai, Jan 18: Emirates Paradela, one of the premier Mangalorean Association in the Middle East has organized a Sunil D’Mello memorial cricket tournament in Dubai, UAE, on Friday, January 18.  Sunil D’Mello was a talented sportsman, member of Emirates Paradela and well known personality around Abu Dhabi who died of brief illness on August 23, 2007.

The response to the tournament was tremendous, owing to several entries only 12 teams were selected to play in one day’s cricket tourney.  The cricket tourney was held at In Sports Club, located at Al Quoz, Dubai.











Harish Sherigar, managing director of ACME has presided over the inaugural ceremony of cricket tourney at 9.30 a m, on Friday, January 18.

 Two-minute silence was observed by all the teams and audience, to pay homage to the departed soul of dear Sunil D’Mello.

The team of Building Material Trading were the first to bat at the first ever Sunil D’Mello memorial cricket tournament.

Belinda D'Mello, wife of late Sunil D'Mello, Dolphy Vaz, former president of KCO and eminent Mangaloreans in Abu Dhabi were the other guests of honour, present at the occasion. Emirates Paradela President Franklin D'Cunha was also present.

Vivek Serrao compered the programme.   The team spirit was scintillating among all twelve teams participated in the tournament. The cricket lovers in the UAE arrived in large numbers to view their favourite cricketers play in Sunil D’Mello memorial cricket tourney. 

Jotun, Milagres Criecket Team, ACME Cricket Team, Derebail Parish Sports Club, Karavali Young Cricketers, Paradise Cricketers, Desert Rangers, Super Heroes, Friends Abu Dhabi, Emirates Paradela, Hawk and Johnson Arabia were the 12 participating teams.







In the semifinals, Milagres Cricket Team defeated Friends Abu Dhabi and Hawk Cricketers defeated Derebail Cricketers.

The final was won by Hawk cricketers defeating Milagres cricketers.
