Mangalore, Jan 19: “The BJP ministers who were supposed to be guardians of law and order, corrupted harmony in the peaceful city like Mangalore.” said Mallikarjun Kharge, chairman of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). Inaugurating the Congress campaign drive at Nehru Maidan on Saturday, January 19 evening, Kharge said,“ Even JD (S) leaders, who shared authority with them for 20 months, have been blamed for the same reason. The voters should not vote such kind of criminals who misused the authority.” he said
In a scathing attack on the BJP, Kharge said , “both the BJP and JD (S) lost power in Karnataka only because of their greed for money. They were not bothered about the welfare of the state.” He further said, “Leaders of both the parties wanted mining and urban development ministerial berths. These are the people who call themselves saviors of farmers of the state. That is why the Presidents' rule was imposed in the state” he opined.
Kharge also attacked former chief minister Yedyurappa who distributed bicycles to the students of the state. But these cycles finally found their way into Bangarappa’s shop in the guise of needing repairs. The BJP has done such deeds to gain cheap popularity. They never launched any people oriented projects for the long run development of the state.
Kharge recalled , “ During the days of independence, India was importing wheat from America. But now the country is self sufficient in food production. Electricity has reached the houses of poor people. Thousands of farmers became owners of the lands, because of the Land Reforms act initiated by the Congress. “ “Neither the BJP nor the JD (S) achieved any such thing during their tenure. ” Kharge said.
“ If the Congress comes to power in the state, 20 kilograms of rice will be given to the poor farmers at Rs 3 per kilogram. Also, 15 lakhs houses will be built for the homeless and a stipend will be given to the unemployed youth of the state.” he assured.
Kharge also pointed out that , “during the last local body elections, the BJP won many seats in the state by using money and muscle power. The Election Commission has found 33 lakh fake voters in the state, in the first stage itself. This clearly shows how the BJP has misused the government machinery. ” “ Hence, the Election Commission should remove all the names of the fake voters.” he urged. Former chief minister Veerappa Moily speaking on the same forum said “ after the fall of JD (S)-BJP government, JDS supremo H D Deve Gowda approached the Congress to form another coalition government in the state. But the Congress clearly rejected his proposal. Devegowda is not a person to be believed.” He expressed hope that the Congress will again form the government in the state independently.
Union ministers Oscar Fernandes and M V Rajashekharan, Rajyasabha member Janardhan Poojary, former ministers D K Shivakumar, Deshpande and other senior Congress leaders were present on this occasion.
Thousands of Congress activists, who came here from various parts of the state, participated in this drive.
