Woman Weighing 500 Kgs gets help from Sushma Swaraj to undergo treatment in Mumbai


New Delhi, Dec 7 (Agencies) : The 36-year-old Egyptian, believed to be the heaviest woman on the planet, resides in the port city of Alexandria.

After numerous desperate attempts of dealing with Iman's weight issues, her sister Chaymaa’

Ahmad Abdulati, earlier this year, went public to sought help.

And the help indeed came after intervention by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

Mumbai-based Dr Muffi Lakdawala brought the case to notice of Sushma, requesting her to allow the woman to travel to India for treatment.

And Sushma obliged as hours later the doctor tweeted that the Indian embassy in Cairo has granted a medical visa to Iman.

"Embassy in Cairo called Visa granted. Thank you so much for this prompt response, impressed Appreciate the help @SushmaSwaraj, (sic)" Dr Lakdawala posted on Twitter.

Iman currently lives in the family home with her sister and mother.

A report stated that her family believes that Iman, at the age of 11, suffered a stroke and was left bed-ridden. unable to move about, she piled on weight.

Reports say that Iman never attended school because of her weight issues. She is also said to have been affected by her father's death when she was young.

According to a report, Iman was born weighing a staggering 5 kgs.
