Mangalore: Dolphy Cascia, Arundhati Naag, Harry D'Souza among Sandesha Awardees

Mangalore, Jan 22: The 17th Sandesha Awards for the year 2007, given by Sandesha foundation for culture and education have been announced and noted Konkani writer Dolphy Cascia, well-known stage and film actress Arundhati Naag, Harry D'Souza of Harrys' Century Band are among the awardees for the year 2007.

This was announced by Sandesha director Fr Francis Lewis at a press conference here on Tuesday January 22 morning.

The awardees are Subraya Chokkadi for Kannada literature, Dolphy Lobo Cascia for Konkani literature, Prof A V Navada of Ammembal for contributions to Tulu literature, Arundhati Naag of Bangalore for achievements in the field of arts, Laxman Kodase of Shimoga for journalism and Francis J B D'Cunha of Mulki for contributions to the field of education.

The media education award will be presented to Shivasanchara Drama Troupe, Chitradurga. Harold Cyril D'Souza. Bejai (Harry D'Souza) will be honoured with the Sandesha Special Recognition award.

The award comprises of cash prize of Rs 10,000, a memento, citation and a certificate.

The award presentation ceremony will be held on Saturday February 2 at 5.30 pm at Sandesha, Bajjodi here.

The programme will be presided over by Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza of Mangalore while Administrative Reforms Commission chairman Veerappa Moily, deputy commissioner Maheshwar Rao and Uttar Pradesh ex-MLA Louise Fernandes Khurshid will be the chief guests.

Chairman of the Sandesha awards jury Dr Na D’Souza, Sandesha trustee Galdin D’Souza, organizing committee member Titus Noronha and manager Leo D’Souza were present at the press conference.
