Mangalore, Jan 23: One person died and two were severely injured when a huge stone rolled over a JCB and a tipper during the process of leveling a hill at Malemar here on Wednesday, January 23.

The deceased has been identified as Dinesh of Siddakatte, who was inside the tipper when the stone rolled on to it. The injured persons have been identified as Purushottam and Chinnappa. One of them was stranded inside the JCB, and another JCB was brought to the spot to rescue him.

The JCB was engaged in leveling the hill and the incident occurred while it was filling soil into the tipper. Both the JCB and the tipper were severely damaged. The huge stone rolled down about 50 meters from the top.

Sources here informed that unscientific leveling work resulted in this ghastly accident. Instead of leveling the hill from the top, they were digging it from the bottom. Even precautionary measures had not been taken by employers to rescue the labourers during accidents. Their carelessness finally resulted in the death of a poor labourer.

Sad this incident took lives of innocent people. But this is a eye opener for all of us. These stupid,un-qualified JCB operators act like they are heroes and want to put up their show for public to look. They drive these JCBs and Cranes on wheels during peak hours on busy streets.

The way they drive, some day they will ram into a packed bus or some small vehicle. This will create a havoc during rush hour. I had close call with a Crane near Bikarnakatte and I met previous RTO with all the details. Spent my time for nothing. But the matter was closed as it is because the Crane belonged to a powerful politician.

I am sure this JCB is belonged to some powerful person with political links. So the matter will be closed just as the Casket of the dead Laborer is closed. This is a land of lawlessness and anyone can operate a Crane or Heavy Earth moving machinery without proper training. Next time beware, that JCB on busy street coming towards you, might be driven by untrained driver.
