Mangalore: P Vijayan, Intelligence Officer to be conferred with Presidential Award

Mangalore, Jan 23: P Vijayan, senior intelligence officer of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), in the city, will be conferred with Presidential Award; during the Republic Day celebrations on Saturday, January 26, in recognition of his distinguished service, stated their press release.
P Vijayan, a native of Karivellur village, lies in Kannur district of Kerala. He had joined the department during 1981 and worked in the offices at Mumbai, Bangalore, Thiruvanthapuram and presently serving in the city. He has also worked in the overseas mission of Consulate general of India at Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 1995 to 2001.
His outstanding performance in gathering intelligence resulted in combating smuggling activities, narcotics, drug trafficking and commercial frauds across the coast of Karnataka and Kerala. Based on his intelligence, DRI and customs have effectively seized contraband gold, silver, electronic goods, watches, mobile handsets, automobiles and detected customs duty evasion worth Rs 25 crores.
DRI has seized one thousand six hundred gold biscuits worth Rs 6 crores in Kerala coast bordering Karnataka, during 1989, recovered one hundred eighty gold biscuits concealed in an aircraft at Mumbai during 1999 and two hundred eighty five silver ingots in Karnataka coast, during 1991 are some of his major achievement in his career with DRI.
He has also contributed significantly in detecting smuggling and commercial frauds, altogether worth Rs 93 crores by DRI. His professionalism, adventurous spirit and integrity have aided the department immensely in achieving major breakthrough in tough cases.
His contribution and service to the department will be duty reciprocated by conferring Presidential Award by Her Excellency, Pratibha Patil, President of India, during Republic Day celebrations, on Saturday, January 26, as stated in their press release.
