Kasargod, Dec 17: Police here on Friday December 16, busted an illegal sand transportation racket where it was discovered that fake passes were used. They arrested two persons relating to the case.
Raju (42) from Kanhangad and Sharath (27) from Bedadka are the persons arrested.
The main accused, who is believed to be the mastermind, Majal Ashraf from Puttur is absconding. Police have seized laptop, printer, fake identity cards, Adhar card and other things from the two-storied house of Majal Ashraf. Police said Ashraf ran away just before they raided his house.
On November 29, when the police here were on patrol, they spotted a lorry carrying sand. Upon seeing the police, driver of lorry ran away from them. When the police checked the lorry, they found many fake passes. Police started probing the issue in Bedagam, Nileshwar and Kasargod police station limits. They discovered that there is a big mafia behind the fake passes case.
Police said that culprits made the sand bookings using the website. It is believed that some prominent people are involved in the fake passes case. Police estimate that 60 to70 lorry loads of sand was transported in illegal way every day.
