Udupi, Jan 25: A software, installed by deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj in order to streamline the functioning at the district administration will be launched on Saturday, January 26 during the Republic Day celebrations at Ajjarkad maidan.
The deputy commissioner has set a motion for this project with the chief objective of availing the IT services to the general public which was hitherto restricted to the office. The district administration has been equipped with a total of 72 computers, out of which 60 were contributed by State Bank of India and the rest donated by social welfare and voluntary organizations including temples. The DC has utilized the funds contributed by all these organizations, to the tune of Rs 20 lacs, to realize the project for the benefit of general public.
Manjunath of National Informatics Centre has developed the software. The general public can access the status of their files from ‘Nemmadi centers’ set up by state government or from cyber cafés by logging on to www.dcofficeudupi.org. Hence, they would be saved of frequent visits to the district headquarter.
The general expectation has risen owing to implementation of various projects, transport facility, developments in information technology. Despite this the staff employed in district quarter remains the same. How could it be possible to meet the growing demands with a few staff and computers? Hence, there was need to upgrade the facility so that people could access the administration without having to visit the officials, informed Ponnuraj speaking to Daijiworld.
By logging onto www.dcofficeudupi.org one can get the status of files, with summary provided on the basis of Right to Information Act (RIA). Moreover, there are plans to introduce online application processing of registration of properties, issuance of title deeds etc.
