Mangalore, Jan 27: In what can be called the most anxious, nail-biting time of the evening, the wait for Keith Pullin, the chief adjudicator of Guinness World Records to announce the record never seem to cease.

The official valedictory programme started after a stupendous music performance which was also the last performance of Konkani Nirantari by Mandd Sobhann group which comprised of members of Mandd Sobhann, Kalakul along with Kuwait representative Rony D'Cunha.

On stage were entrepreneur Ronald Colaco, Eric Ozario, Roy Castelino, Grace Pinto of Ryan's International, Ramesh Francis Naik Bhandodkar, Ronald Mendonca,Louis J Pinto, Daijiworld director-operations Melvyn Rodrigues, Dayanand Pai of Hangyo Ice Cream, Ramchandra Mijar, associated vice-president of Udayavani.

But no one gathered was bothered about anything other than chief adjudicator Keith Pullin's decision and when finally the compere handed over the mike to Keith Pullin to announce his decision there was pin-drop silence in the entire arena.  Keith began his address thus, "It's amazing….everyone has done wonderful job. I have experienced something inexplicable in these last couple of days...Your effort has been outstanding to say the least and that has been recognized by Guinness Record…"

Only that was heard…nothing else was heard as the sea of people who had gathered burst into celebration.  Harry's Century band was there to encourage them.  This was indeed something historic and will never be forgotten even by generations to come.

Konkani Nirantari - 40-hour Singing Marathon Concludes on Jubilant Note

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (GA)

Mangalore, Jan 27: Finally 'the moment' has arrived. Konkani Nirantari, a 40-hour singing marathon emabarked on by Mandd Sobhaann in a bid to break the Guinness Record has now come to an end with great success. When the penaltimet group Kepechim Kirnam after a superb and stupendous show handed over the baton to the host, Mandd Sobhann, celebration and excitement could well be felt in the air.  A sense of achievement, a feeling of contentment and height of confidence was all writ large on the faces of all those who have toiled day-in-and-day-out for long.

But there were a few who have slogged hard to realize this dream were concealing their feelings.  Yes! Most of the members of the Mandd Sobhann troupe have been personally involved in this mammoth effort.  But putting behind all their tiredness they were seen on the stage with broad smile to complete the 40-hour singing marathon.  Mandd Sobhann has set its own standards in music.  It was clearly evident from time they started their performance under the baton of Eric Ozario.  The entire troupe consists of talented and hardworking individuals who have been working selflessly for the betterment of Konkani.

They were perhaps bolstered by the presence of Rony D'Cunha, perhaps one of the finest singers who has graced Konkani music world.  He represented Kuwait in Konkani Nirantari.  Mandd Sobhann's performance was quite inspiring and was well-accepted by sea of people who came in from all corners of Mangalore and even from Goa and Kerala. The group was supported by orthestra troupe comprising of Dilon D'Souza on keyboard, Roshan D'Souza on lead guitar, Derek D'Souza on bass guitar, Sachin Sequeira on drums and Damodar Kumble on tabla.

All in all it was superb performance which mesmerized the entire gathering.  As the group wound up their performance sharp at 10 pm people appreciated them with thunderous applause acknowledging their mammoth effort of taking Konkani to the Guinness Book of World Records.....

All said and done, everything has gone on right track both for the organizers and also for participants.  We have bettered the existing world record by 4 hours.  But the official decision is yet awaited and a thousand pair of eyes are planted on Keith Pullin, the official adjudicator from the Guinness Book of World Records.

Updated at 9pm

  • Keep Fingers Crossed, says Keith

Mangalore, Jan 27: “You are now in a stage where you have won a partial Guinness World Record. Its partial as you will have to complete your 40 hours of singing, after which there will be a detailed analysis,” said Keith Pullin, chief adjudicator, Guinness Book of World Records. Speaking exclusively to Daijiworld, Pullin revealed that he had completed a part of analysis of the log book and maintained that so far that Nirantari had done extremely well and so far has found nothing that could keep the record away.”

So now all eyes will be on Pullin as he begins his analysis of the entire 40-hour singing marathon. If all goes well the record will be with Mandd Sobhann here to stay.

Dear Anita, I'm writing from Bangalore.I would like to remind the Media that this is a World record and not confined to Mangalore only as you say...I definitely agree with you that the Media in Mangalore have done a commendable job and I too was a witness to it ...but what about the other parts of Karnataka, What about the Capital-Bangalore.We had only a small photo in the 5th or 6th pages with hardly any write-up.

Thats what I was trying to point out at.What about our Kannada News channels, how many channels aired the program. I have seen that the same Media have spend a whole day telecasting Live shots in front of Amitabh Bhachan's house to catch a glimpse of the Ash-Abhi wedding and we did not have even a 5 minute Live telecast on Nirantari...Hence I think you need to think beyond Mangalore....This is a Guinness Record dear not a Mangalore Record....

I was very upset of the poor response of the Indian media specially from Karnataka. Is the Media listening..Its a GUINNESS RECORD guys..not an ordinary childs play. The media has all the time to record where ASH-ABHI is dining,sleeping.. About Krishna's affairs etc.etc..but no time for SUCH AN IMPORTANT WORLD RECORD. Standing ovation for the record breaking attempt undertaken for the Konkani speaking people. Taking the event to greater heights by having a front page national coverage (India) through larger news coverage media such as Doordarshan, NDTV, Aaj Tak etc among the Television media and Times of India, Hindustan Times etc among the Print media will certainly take the level of Konkani recognition higher from where it is today. Will Mandd Sobhann take this up? It must.

It’s indeed a glorious moment for Konkani language in general and its music in particular as Mandd Sobhann (Konkani Nirantari) Team has just written a new page in Konkani’s history. Bab Eric Ozario rightly deserves all the accolades for his great leadership and to his team for translating his dream into action in all splendour and spirit. We the members of Daiji Dubai and Daiji Rang Mandir are equally excited at the successful completion of a gigantic task.

Our wishes go to out to all those who worked relentlessly over the past several months towards this blessed goal. Although we are seven seas away in person, our solidarity and support always remains with Mandd Sobhan and whatever they endeavour to do for the progress and prosperity of our mother language.

Wonderful! That's an achievement worth mentioning! Congrats to the organisers of Mandd Sobhann who toiled hard to bring together the children of our beloved Konkani. Even at a distance of thousands of miles we were thrilled to follow the progress of this marathon singing.

Thanks 'Daijiworld'. The pictures were excellent. As I followed the updates I felt as if I was present among the audience at 'Kalangan'!

Konkany on top of the world…!!! Hats off to my good old childhood colleague, who honoured me by visiting my humble home in Doha, the Apostle of Konkany Mai-bhas, who’se efforts with very special support from Daijiworld to day confirmed that his Herculean efforts to spread a deep rooted love of Konkany among one and all ‘children’ of Konkan Matha, has borne fruit with thousands of Konkany lovers of Music coming forward in a united manner and successfully performing and securing a supreme place in the Guinnese Book of Records. Ericbab, unlike many hippocrites who proclaim their “false” love for Konkany but suppress genuine talented artistes of the community, you have successfully ensured all talented singers of the community from aaaaaall walks of life, with your efforts and encouragement given to them through the Mand Sobhan as evident from the brilliant photographs published in the Daijiworld…….. I feel happy to remember that the first time I ever sang a Konkany song was in the show you had organized at the Don Bosco Hall in around May 1972. Subsequently I took a special liking for Konkany singing and it was with your inspiration I made the two Cassettes of Traditional Konkany songs in the early eighties singing songs like Rosalin Moja Mogachen, Chowpathiry…etc. May God Bless you and your family for this great achievement and may he shower His blessings on all your future endeavours.!!!!!
