Karkala: Thousands Flock to St Lawrence Pilgrimage Shrine Seeking Intercession

Karkala / Attur, Jan 29: The devotees from all over the country and abroad are thronging the annual feast of historically famous St Lawrence pilgrimage centre, located at Attur, here on Tuesday, January 29. It was a much awaited feast among the natives in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district who elaborately plan their journey along with friends and family members. With the advent of better infrastructure to the shrine and at the pilgrimage centre, the pilgrims can easily attend the festal masses.
Bishop Peter Machado of Belgaum diocese offered Eucharistic Mass in Kannada at 6-00 p m, on Tuesday, January 29, along with group of priests.
Special prayers will be held for sick throughout the three days of festivities. Ample parking slots were provided with the assistance of volunteers and security personnel. Offering and petition boxes were placed in strategic places at the shrine, for the easy access of faithful. Special alms boxes were placed while the total sum will be divided among the beggars on the last day of fest; thereby discourage alms begging at the shrine. The district police have assigned good number of personnel to assist in smooth functioning of festivities.
The festivities in St Lawrence shrine convey the unity among the Konkans, after the recently held ‘Konkani Niranthari’ a debut entered in the Guinness World Records. Moreover, the natives have got an opportunity to thank the miraculous St Lawrence for achieving an entry into Guinness.
