Mangalore, Feb 3: It was as if virtually the entire city of Mangalore gathered at  Panambur beach to participate in the concluding ceremony of Beach Festival on Sunday, February 3 evening. The  whole scene and atmosphere around the area was like the Arabian sea and ocean of people merged together at the scenic Panambur beach.

The sources near Panambur vicinity estimated the crowd was more than two folds than last year, creating traffic chaos.

Earlier, various competitions like skating for school children, sand sculpture contest, finals of throw ball and volleyball and kite flying competitions etc for teams from around Mangalore were held at the beach.

During the concluding ceremony of Beach Festival, District Commissioner (DC) M Maheshwar Rao informed  that, a plan for the project of estimated Rs 1.5 crore will be submitted to the state Government for the development of beaches at Someshwar, Tannirbavi, Ullal and Panambur for approval. He expressed hope that the prestigious project would help in attracting large number of tourists from various parts of the country as well as people from abroad

P Tamilvannan, chairman of New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) presided over the function. Beach Festival committee president Sameer Shukla and entrepreneur Premprasad Raheja were present on this occasion.

Zilla Panchayat CEO A M Kunjappa proposed vote of thanks. Journalist Manohar Prasad compered the programme.

Later a musical programme by Raghu Deekshith and troupe Bangalore was held at the beach .

Though the programmes of this year failed to deliver quality output, the Panambur beach has witnessed record number of people on the concluding day of Beach Festival.

A comprehencive master plan for Karavali Utsav should be drawn to include all individual efforts Like, International Kite Festival, Alvas Nudisiri, Mangalore Beach Festival etc. The Master Plan should include a shopping festival to cover all the trading concerns too. This entire thing should packaged and marketed well outside the district to attract people from other parts of Karnataka to Mangalore.

The tourism influx would do wonders to Mangalore. But I still have doubts in my mind about the infrastructure like good roads and hotels.

Really it was good it was amazing it was a good function. But dont allow any political leaders to come over there. If they involve in such type of Function then there will be communal fights so better to through them out.

It is true it was a real flop show. The band was rubbish and so was sound. Again the counters were too close to one another. I feel organisers should avail services of event managers who do better jobs and more of private companies should be involved.
