Mangalore, Feb 5: Two school students escaped with minor bruises when a tree fell on the building of Government High School at Hampankatta here on Tuesday February 5 afternoon. The strong wooden beams and stone walls prevented other students from suffering serious injuries.

The injured students have been identified as Divya and Fatima Taskeena. A teacher was conducting class to about 57 students in the classroom. Fortunately, the strong wooden beams and stone walls prevented the tree from causing serious damage when the old tree fell over.

If the building had collapsed, the city would have witnessed a major tragedy. The tree rolled on the school building owing to termite attack into its trunk. There are many such trees affected by termite attack in the vicinity of the school which pose a threat to the school and students. Hence, the school teachers have urged the authorities concerned to take necessary measures in clearing these trees for the safety of students.
