Bantwal, Jan 14: A man was killed by a bullet fired from a rifle at Vittal here late night on Friday January 13.
Indrakumar (64) was killed in the firing that was reported to have taken place at Nekkare Kadu in Kasba, Vittal here.
Indrakumar's body was found with a bullet wound on the doorsteps of his house. The rifle with which the shot was fired was also found beside the body.
Sources said that Indrakumar and his 30-year-old son, Chandrahas, were involved with squabble over property dispute since sometime. Chandrahas, who owns a jeep and runs it on hire basis, had returned home after the day's work at around 9 pm on Friday January 13. Thereafter, fight as had been routine, started between the two, it is said. After the quarrel escalated, Indrakumar picked up his rifle in a fit of rage, and fired at his son. Injured Chandrahas ran to a neighbouring house to save himself, it is gathered. Sources also said he got admitted to hospital.
A short while later, sound of another gunshot was heard. Later, Indrakumar was found fallen in a pool of blood at the main door of his house. It is not known whether it was a case of suicide or accidental firing.
Indrakumar has left behind wife, two sons and three daughters. One of his sons lives elsewhere, and one of his three daughters had died sometime back. The other two daughters live with their husbands. Wife of Chandrahas was at her parental home since sometime for delivery.
When Chandrahas ran away, his mother too followed him. Therefore, apparently there were no eyewitnesses to the death of Indrakumar. Some locals said they heard firing sound thrice.
