Bantwal, Feb 9: In what may be considered a major breakthrough here, a special squad of the state excise police have been successful in swooping down on an illicit arrack production unit at Bannodi in Bantwal's Muda village on Friday February 8 late night.

After the arrack ban in the state, while the excise police have been successful in seizing illegally produced arrack sachets in the district, they were still groping in the dark and having a tough time trying to trace the production units of these illicitly produced spirits. And now this busting of the illicit arrack racket is indeed a major success and a feather in the cap for the state excise police.

Earlier, the special squad of the excise police acting on a tip-off, raided the spot and seized huge quantities of liquor and equipment used for producing the same. Police have also succeeded in seizing two four-wheeler vehicles and arrested the accused Fayaz and Usman, understood to be running the unit.

However, sources here also informed that one of the major suspects Haneef is still absconding. The cost of the seized arrack and equipment has been estimated at Rs 8.5 lac. The excise police have registered a case and set the investigative machinery into motion and all efforts are now being made to arrest the alleged culprit Haneef.

Government should be aware, the drunkard will drink alcohol however difficult it may be. Now, by banning alcohol Government opened the door for illegal activities. This alcohol may be more dangerous than what they used to drink and therefore may cause more disturbances in the families because anyone who gets the opportunity to drink will drink more than what he used to.

At the same time Government forced many to opt for illegal brewing since those who used to work for this industry before left with no other way but to brew illegally for survival. But now they are called criminals. Now, by banning alcohol, Government created illegals and then catch them calling them illegals.  I am sure, if survey is made especially in the poor families after banning the liquor, one will find more disturbances than before.
