London, Feb 9: The two oil paintings of Picasso, Tete de Cheval and Verre et Pichet, worth millions of dollars have been stolen from an art gallery in Switzerland.

Two Picasso paintings worth millions of dollars have been stolen from an art gallery in Switzerland, a media report said today.

Both paintings were stolen on Wednesday evening after closing time at the Seedamm-Kulturzentrum in the small town of Pfaeffikon, near Zurich.

The thieves set off a security alarm as they left the building. Police are investigating whether the burglars locked themselves in the building before it closed, a report in The Daily Telegraph said.

The two oil paintings -- Tete de Cheval and Verre et Pichet -- were on loan from a museum in Germany, which has promised a reward for the recovery of the paintings.

In 1989 thieves broke into Marina Picasso's home in Cannes and stole 12 works, although these were later recovered.

Seven Picasso oil paintings were stolen from a gallery in Zurich in 1994 and have still to be found.

Portrait of Suzanne Bloch went missing from a museum in Sao Paulo last month, but was recovered later.

The works of iconic painter are among world's most valuable and frequently targeted by thieves.
